1. How to search data
JAMSTEC Data Catalog holds information (metadata) of datasets related to JAMSTEC’s research activities. There are two ways to search data:
After choosing a kind of study or location in the Data Tree, you may refine your search by expanding and collapsing the folders in the menu.
You may search data by full text search. Use the text search box on the upper right area of the screen.

3. Search by categories
The Data Tree on the left side of the screen is a classification tree to help users to refine their search. The number of datasets included in each category is shown in brackets on the right of each categories name. If you click a category, the Data Tree will expand and show its sub classification. Data which is included in the category or sub classification you have chosen will also be listed up in the Dataset List on the right side.
A list of data related to the categories you have chosen in the Data Tree or the Data Detail area will be shown on the Dataset List. The title, thumbnail and abstract of each data will be listed up. Click the title of the data to see detailed information on that data.
4. Search by keywords
Enter any keywords in the search box on the right top side of the screen and click the magnifying glass icon. You may refine your search by entering the following symbols with keywords.

Enter space between the keywords.The search engine will search for data that includes all of the keywords you have entered.
The search result screen consists of the Data Tree and search result list. Results of your search will be listed in the result list. Tittles and thumbnails of each data will be listed with snippets around the highlighted keywords. Click the title to see more information on that data. You may change the numbers of results to be listed up in one screen. Use the pull down menu on the bottom of the screen.

You may refine your search result using the Data Tree. The numbers in the brackets are the number of search results included in each category. The total number of your search result will be indicated on the right side of the ALL DATA folder.
5. Display options
Basic info. of metadata
A title, thumbnail and a brief summary of metadata on a dataset will be displayed. If you click a link in the [Science Keywords] and [Location], a dataset list included in that category will pop up in another window.
Detail info. of metadata
A title, thumbnail and detailed metadata on a dataset will be displayed. If you click a link in the [Science Keywords] and [Location], a dataset list included in that category will pop up in another window.
Click the language icon on the right upper area to change the language. If you click the “English” icon, the Japanese screen will change into English. If you click the 日本語 icon, the language on the screen will switch to Japanese.
