How to use "Land Observation Catalog"

The "Land Observations Catalog" helps you find and browse information for land observation operated by JAMSTEC by map and data categories.

  • Recommended environment is as follows.
  • ・Firefox 45.0 or above
  • ・Safari 9.0.3 or above
  • ・Google Chrome 49.0 or above
  • *Internet Explorer may not display the map. Please use any of the above recommended browser versions.

Usage of the database is as follows.

1. Data List

  1. Screen Layout

    A Data Tree is located on the left side of the screen. Selecting categories of observation will narrow down the data entries.
    Map is located on the right side of the screen. Map tab is selected at first, and all observation points are displayed on the map. Switching to List tab will display the list of observation data.


  2. Data Tree

    Selecting a category in Data Tree will display the observation belonging to the category on Map and List tabs. Furthermore, selecting sub category will more narrow down the observation.
    The figures in parentheses next to category names show total numbers of observation entries classified under each category.


  3. Map tab

    Selecting Map tab will plot observation points for the selected category on the map.

    The buttons on the left side of the map or your mouse can be used to zoom in/out or move the map.
    Click the Legends button on the upper right of the map to see the legends.

    Clicking observation points plotted on the map will display its summary.
    Furthermore, clicking the ID will go to its detailed information page.


  4. List tab

    All observation included in the selected category are shown in Data List for selecting List tab. Clicking a thumbnail will go to its detailed information page.
    Clicking "Map" will plot the observation point with red.


2. Search by keywords

The text box located at the upper right of the screen can be used to search for observation with keywords.
Entering multiple words with spaces will start AND search.

e.g.: Entering "Solid Earth" will search the data that contains both words "Solid" and "Earth".


3. Advanced search

  1. Screen Layout

    Clicking "Advanced search" on the upper right of the screen will display the advanced search page. On this page, you can select categories, search with word, ad search criteria, and search with a map. Clicking Search button on the bottom of the screen will start to search for data for your specified conditions.


  2. Keyword Search

    Entering multiple words with spaces, and selecting "Include all these words" or "Include either of these words" will start AND search or OR search, respectively.


  3. Search Criteria

    Select an item from the pulldown list at Condition Other Keyword and click Add button to add search criteria. Clicking Delete button will remove the criteria you have added. Clicking Clear button will initialize the criteria.


  4. Map

    Click "Polygon" to search a specified area on the map. A single click adds a point, and a double click sets the search area.
    Clicking Search button will start to search for the selected area.
    Moreover, Clicking Clear button will cancel the selected area.


4. Search result

    The search result page consists of Data Tree and Search Result.

    The figures in parentheses next to category names show the total numbers of observation that match with your search criteria.


  4. Search result

    The search results are shown in the Map or List tab.


  5. Map tab

    Clicking an observation point on the map will display its summary. Furthermore, clicking the ID will go to its detailed information page.


  6. List tab

    Clicking a thumbnail will go to its detailed information page.


5. Detailed Information

The detailed information of observation is displayed on Detailed Information Page.

Clicking the link of latitude and longitude will plot the observation point on the map window.

Clicking the URL at WebSite will display its website.
