A simple device for detecting photosynthesis inhibitor contamination that adversely affects phytoplankton
Summary
In recent years, attention has focused on the development of seabed mineral resources, and it has become clear that sulphide minerals in seabed hydrothermal deposits, one of the targets, leach a variety of heavy metal elements under high temperature and oxidising conditions, such as in the ocean surface layer, and the leachate causes a decrease in phytoplankton abundance and growth inhibition. Therefore, leakage of leached heavy metals from offshore plants is a major problem in the development of subsea mineral resources, and it is necessary to take measures to address this problem and introduce a water quality monitoring system to continuously monitor for leakage from offshore plants.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive and compact detection device and a simple detection method for photosynthesis inhibitor contamination that adversely affects phytoplankton, comprising.
(1) a collection device 10 for collecting the test solution, and a light-shielding pre-treatment tank 21 for storing the test solution 2 collected by the collection device in a state containing phytoplankton
(2) a stirring device 23 for maintaining the phytoplankton in the test solution stored in the pre-treatment tank in a suspended state
(3) an irradiating light source 22 that irradiates weak light with a photon flux density in water that does not cause strong photoinhibition of the phytoplankton in the test solution stored in the pre-treatment tank
(4) a drainage pipeline 40 into which the test solution discharged from the pre-treatment tank flows
(5) a photosynthesis inhibitor contamination detection device 1 having a fluorescence quantum yield measuring machine 50 installed in the drainage pipeline to measure the fluorescence quantum yield of phytoplankton in the test solution discharged from the pre-treatment tank, and a photosynthesis inhibitor contamination detection method having a liquid supply process, a storage weak light irradiation process and a fluorescence quantum yield measurement process.
According to the invention, the fluorescence quantum yield of phytoplankton in a test solution such as seawater collected over time can be measured semi-continuously to determine whether there is sudden contamination of heavy metals.
