Quality Levels of Data

In general, we provide Quality-Controlled or Corrected data on this data site, although there are still some raw data for which quality control process is not yet applied. Please check for the data information before using.

The quality control levels on this data site are following,

quality level expression standard process
low Raw Original data as of the end of the cruise (Just converted to physical property or preliminarily processed onboard)
middle Processed
(DMO)-Basic
Derived values processed by Data Management Office from raw data without quality control
high Processed
(DMO)-QCed
Routinely quality controlled (adding quality flags or conversion to missing value) data by Data Management Office
very high Processed
(DMO)-Corrected
Corrected (correction with calibration data, evaluation of errors or filtering out of low reliable data) data by Data Management Office
Processed (DMO/PI) Data includes both processed data by Principal Investigator and Data Management Office
Processed (PI) Processed data by Principal Investigator

⋅ Data Management Office indicates Data management Group.

⋅ Data Management Office routinely makes "Processed Data(DMO)".

⋅ Some data may not be quality controlled.

⋅ The level of quality control may differ with the type of data.

⋅  "Processed(PI) is data processed and submitted by researchers. QC levals rely on datasets.

⋅ Once data in higher level is available, the lower level data will be replaced on the web by the higher level data. Anyone who wants to have "Raw data" or others is encouraged to contact us.

Data without links to files/publication pages

   On cruise data pages, some data (or report) items may be listed with no link to relevant data file (or document), because of such following reasons;

⋅ The data is under public distribution moratorium period.

⋅ The data is not submitted by the science party yet.

⋅ Data disclosure process is not finished.

⋅ Data handling policy is not determined for data disclosure.

⋅ The data is decided to be closed, etc.

For requesting these undisclosed data, please contact the Data Management Office (dmo jamstec.go.jp). Then Data Management Office will check for the availability of the data in response.

Note that you may have to obtain a permission of data use from Chief Scientist or other onboard scientists (such as dive researcher), and that there is a possibility for that we cannot provide the requested data, depending on the situation.

Please refer to the "Application for Data and Samples" page for details for requesting offline data.

 Link Policy

Please follow the following conditions to provide links to this data site from web pages outside JAMSTEC.

  1. Before providing a link, please contact the site manager (dmo jamstec.go.jp) and get a permission. However, it is not necessary to have a permission for DOI citation.
  2. The URLs of this data site may be changed without notice.
  3. JAMSTEC is not responsible for linked materials outside JAMSTEC and the results of use of the data provided on this data site.
  4. Top page URL is preferable for providing a link to this data site. Otherwise, exhibit Cruise Data page URL to provide a link to individual data.
  5. Direct linking to individual data file is prohibited.
  6. For linking this data site, create a new window on the viewer’s browser, and do not use flames to show any content of this data site.
  7. When additional conditions for use or citation are indicated for specific data, links to those pages should also be exhibited.

Except for the policy of links the Site Policy of JAMSTEC will be applied.
