Recommended Operational Environment

  • Recommended OS and browsers are following;
    OS:
     Windows 7/8/10, MacOS X
    Browser:
     Internet Explorer 11 and above, FireFox/Safari/Google Chrome latest version
  • Please note that popup blocker of your browser or its add-ons disables some functions in this site.

How to use DARWIN

Available for only logged-in users
  • If you have registered, please click the "Log in" in the upper right.
  • If you don't have registered, please click the "User Registration" on the navigation bar.

Data Tree

You can see cruise data, dive data and observation data in tree view.
  1. [1]Click on the Data Tree button on the top page or select the Data Tree at the navigation.
  2. [2]Select a category on the drop-down list.
  3. [3]Information and number are displayed in the Tree area. Click on the information to refine your search result.
  4. [4]The selected information is displayed in the Selected Information area.

Detailed Search

You can search in combination with keywords input and area designation on map.
  1. [1]Click on the Detailed Search button on the top page or select the Detailed Search at the navigation.
  2. [2]Drag a bounding box on the map in the Search Ranges (map) or enter values into fields in the Search Ranges (numerical value) to specify an area. All area selected without specification.
  3. [3]Select a category and display language(s) in the Search for area.
  4. [4]Enter a term/terms into the Keywords field in the Search condition area.
  5. [5]Click on the Search button.

Advanced search

  1. [4’]Check the Advanced Search to display search items. Enter Search Criteria. Plural selections in pop-up windows of Data Types/PI Data Name are applied as ‘OR’ condition.
  1. [5’]Click on the Search button to display search results.

Additional search option

  1. [4”]Check the Advanced Search to display search items. Enter Search Criteria. Plural selections in pop-up windows of Data Types/PI Data Name are applied as ‘OR’ condition.
  1. [5”]Click on the Search button to display search results.

Search results

  1. [6]Search results are displayed in the Search Result. You can sort the data and choose to show only a certain amount of data per page.
  2. [7]Click on the Shown on Map button to display navigation, observation point or observation line about information with map on (green) icon.
  3. [8]Click on a link text (blue character) to go to a related page.
  4. [9]See Basket about use of check box.

Cruise ID/Dive ID Search

You can go directly to a cruise or dive information page by using the search boxes at the lower right of each page.
  1. [1]Enter Cruise ID into the Cruise ID field and click on the Go button to go to the specified cruise information page.
  2. [2]Enter Dive ID into the Dive ID field and click on the Go button to go to the specified dive information page.

Full-text search

You can search all pages in this site and pdf files included cruise report.
  1. [1]Enter keyword or phrase into the field and click on the Search button at upper right each page.
  2. [2]Search results are listed.
  3. [3]You can narrow your search results.
  4. [4]You can sort your search results and change to show only a certain amount of results per page.
  5. [5]Click the title (blue characters) to go to a related page.

Basket

You can use the Add to Basket button in cruise information, dive information, observation data or search result pages to add datasets to basket.
  1. [1]Select the dataset(s) you want to add to your basket from the dataset list by using the check box.
  2. [2]Click on the Add to Basket button to add dataset(s) to your basket.
  3. [3]A list of datasets in your basket will be displayed in the Basket page.

Download

  1. [1]Check on the check box to select data file(s). One data type is available.
  2. [2]Click on the Download button.
  3. [3]Fill out a Questionnaire. Click on the Confirm and the Send buttons to go to next page.
  4. [4]Click on the Start dowloading to download files.

Download (Logged-in user only)

  1. [1]Click on the check box to select file(s). Multiple data types are available.
  2. [2]Click on the Download button. The selected dataset file(s) will be downloaded. If the file size exceeds the upper limit size, an error message are displayed. Reduce dataset.
  3. [3]Dataset file(s) will be started to download.

Send a Download URL (Logged-in user only)

  1. [1]Click on the check box to select data file(s). Multiple data types are available.
  2. [2]Click on the Send a Download URL button. The selected dataset file(s) will be downloaded. If the file size exceeds the upper limit size, an error message are displayed. Reduce dataset.
  3. [3]The e-mail send to your address.
  4. [4]Click the URL described in the e-mail. The URL are not available after a set period of time.

Download History (Logged-in user only)

  1. [1]Click on the View the history.
  2. [2]The download history for a certain period.

Extract (Logged-in user only)

  1. [1]Select dataset to extract data.
  2. [2]Click on the Extract button.
  3. [3]Drag on a bounding box on the map or enter numerical value to extract the region in the popup window, and click on the OK button.
  4. [4]The file name is added to your basket.

Visualize (Logged-in user only)

  1. [1]Select target data to visualize data.
  2. [2]Click on the Visualize button to go to the Visualization of observation data page.
  3. [3]Set data, variables, type of graph, etc.
  4. [4]Click on the Draw button to display a graph.
  5. [5]Click on the Image Download button to start downloading a image file.
