Shipboard acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP)(YK12-01 -)

By emitting acoustic pulse from ship bottom, the current speed and direction of down to 1000m depth are measured by the doppler shift of reflected wave.

Multi-narrow beam echo sounder (YK14-02 - )

The system transmits the shape echo sounder beam from the transmitter and receives the beam reflected from the seabed using the hydrophone. The water depth is calculated from the travel time of the beam between the transmitter and the receiver.

Multi-narrow beam echo sounder ( - YK14-01)

Multi-narrow beam echo sounder manufactured by SeaBeam Instruments is used on R/V Mirai. The system emits multiple acoustic beams from ship's bottom, and simultaneously receives their reflected beam from sea floor. Thus the ocean floor topography is clarified by this system. Moreover, the composition of sea floor material is revealed by strength of echoes.

Shipboard gravimeter

This gravimeter uses the zero ring spring as gravity sensor, and equips the gimbal structure controled by a gyro accelerometer. The length of the spring is measured and the gravity is calculated.

Microgravimeter ( YK14-03 - )

Microgravimeter is used to make a tracability of the shipboard gravimeter. The gravity is measured both at pier and at the standard point where the absolute gravity is well known. What is necessary is just to install it horizontally, since this gravity meter performs measurement and the compensation by the tide automatically.

3 component magnetometer

Geomagnetic field strength resolved into X, Y and Z components is measured by this instrument. This sensor is fixed on an aluminum platform mounted on the top part of foremast to minimize magnetic influences of ship's hull and manmade noises.

Proton magnetometer (YK07-01 - )

With this equipment, the geomagnetic field strength of sea area is mesured. In order to avoid magnetic influence of hull, the sencor is towed approximately 300m off the stern.

XBT/XCTD

XBT measures the vertical profile of water temperature during free fall of its probe part(temperature sensor) in the seawater. XCTD measures the vertical profile of water temperature and salinity during free fall of its probe part(temperature sensor and conductivity sensor) in the seawater. These system can be used at under way.

Radio navigation system

This system displays as various navigation information graphically to support the ship handling. The principal observed data is recorded with the navigation information by this system. Moreover the navigation information is distributed to some observation systems simultaneously with LAN.

Hydroacoustic navigation system

This system measures the relative position of vessel by transponders placed on sea floor. In operation, retractable transducer is extended form the bottom of vessel. It is also possible to tramsmit a command with this system to the acoustic release. Mainly uses for measurement of location of the SHINKAI 6500.
