Click/tap the button on the right of homepage.

A page will appear with our selection of 250 deep-sea videos and 250 deep-sea photos, which are registered at J-EDI. To see deep-sea photos, click/tap # Photos tab on a screen to switch display.
Note: A hash (#) indicates a number of photos.
Sixty videos and sixty photos are initially displayed; you may change the number of videos and photos to display in one page as needed.

Clicking a video thumbnail will show a player on a screen; video thumbnails only appears when you are selecting # Videos tab.
*A way of playing video is same on other pages that displays video thumbnails.
Note: A hash (#) indicates a number of videos.
Basic operation of player
  • ① Click/tap a picture area to switch play and pause.
  • ② Click/tap other operation buttons to rewind, play/pause, stop, and first-forward.
  • *Clicking/tapping a progress bar or entering a time goes back and forward.
  • ③ Click/tap Full screen button to make picture full-screen.
  • ④ Click/tap a thumbnail in Playlist to switch to another video.
Video information on player
  • ⑤ Contents of video, depth, time, dive area will be appeared
  • ⑥ Video ID will be appeared. Please tell us this ID for enquiries of specific videos.
Other functions
  • ⑦ Clicking/tapping Share Video button will show a URL of the video.
  • ⑧ Downloading a video and adding it to My Library will be available by logging into J-EDI.

Clicking/tapping a photo thumbnail will show a viewer on a screen; photo thumbnails only appears when you are selecting # Photos tab.

Basic operation of viewer
  • ① Click Magnifier button to enlarge a part of photo; you can change magnification ratio with mouse wheel.
  • ② Click Rotate button to rotate 90 degrees clockwise.
  • ③ Click/tap Full screen button to make picture full-screen.
  • ④ Click/tap a thumbnail in Playlist to switch to another photo.
Photo information on viewer
  • ⑤ Contents of photo, depth, time, dive area will be appeared.
  • ⑥ Photo ID will be appeared. Please tell us this ID for enquiries of specific photos.
Other functions
  • ⑦ Clicking/tapping Share Video button will show a URL of the photo.
  • ⑧ Downloading a photo and adding it to My Library will be available by logging into J-EDI.

Click/tap Search Videos and Photos on the left side of deep-sea video and photo list page to open search menu for searching for videos and photos.
*Please refer to “Open deep-sea video and photo list ” for more information about the deep-sea video and photo list.

Clicking/tapping Search button after entering search conditions will result in a list of videos and photos met your search conditions.

To add more or re-enter search conditions, open the search menu on the left of screen again to continue.
2. Select dive surveys

Initially, all dive surveys registered to J-EDI will be displayed on the screen; the data are available in tabular form with a variety of information.
It is also available to switch maps plotted with dive points.

Click/tap a dive number from the list to choose a dive. Select a submersible, enter a dive number, dive date, and others, or sort in alphabetical order to find dive surveys.

Clicking/tapping 3D/2D Map button on the top of screen will display maps plotted with icons representing points of dive surveys have been conducted.
Icon sizes are responded to a number of conducted dive surveys; bigger icons indicate more than a few dive surveys conducted in that area, for example.
Letters of CTD on icons shows dive surveys containing information of dive tracks.

Clicking/tapping an icon on the map will display a list of dive surveys conducted on the selected area.

Click/tap Find Dives on the left side of screen to open search screen for dives.

Clicking/tapping Find button after entering search conditions will display all dive surveys met your search conditions on the list/map. Clicking/tapping Clear button will clear all conditions.

Clicking/tapping the icons will display a list of dive surveys on the side of map.
2.2. View a dive survey

Select a dive from list/maps to open a dive page.
Click/tap a thumbnail of video/photo to open a video player/photo viewer.
View dive tracks

In case of viewing dive surveys that contains data of dive track, there will be links of 2D Track and 3D Track on the left side of screen.
Select 2D/3D Track on the left side of screen to see two-/three-dimensional dive track.

This page contains two-dimensional dive track and Time Series of Depth graph in the middle and video thumbnails in chronological order on the bottom of screen.
Clicking/tapping dive track or line of graph will focus a video thumbnail taken at the point/time.

This page contains three-dimensional dive track and Time Series of Depth graph in the middle and video thumbnails in chronological order on the bottom of screen.
The operation of dive track, the graph, and video thumbnails are the same as two-dimensional dive track.

In three-dimensional dive track, you can zoom, rotate, and change a viewpoint with mouse.

Clicking/tapping Start Track Tracing button will start a submersible tracing dive track when three-dimensional dive track is displayed.
  • *If posture of submersible changes while tracing dive track, direction data of dive survey is reflected.

Dive Data is displayed on the left side of screen on a dive page. Click/tap menu button to see other information on the dive.
3. Download deep-sea videos and photos

Logging into the website will make deep-sea videos and photos on this website downloadable.

There are terms and conditions for using videos and photos. Please refer to Terms and Conditions for more details.

When deep-sea videos and photos are added to My Library, it is available to download a number of videos or photos at a time.
Select videos/photos you want to download on My Library page.
  • *Data can be downloaded up to 350MB (approx. one hour of video) at a time.
4. Create own deep-sea video and photo library

Logging in to J-EDI will be able to create your own deep-sea video and photo library, called My Library.

Open My Library from the navigation menu on the upper right side of screen.
Logging into J-EDI will display My Library button in the navigation menu.
My Library

On My Library page, videos, photos, and dive surveys added to My Library will be displayed in different tabs.
Those videos, photos, and dives are in order of date added to My Library.
Customize My Library
Deep-sea videos and photos and dive surveys added to My Library can be sorted into different folders, and orders of them can also be changed.
Create and edit folders

Clicking/tapping folder_plus (create folders) icon while selecting All will create your original folders. Moreover, sub-folders can be made under a folder; a folder except All and Unclassified is needed to be selected initially. Created folders can be edited with edit (edit) button and change the display orders of them with up_down buttons.

Select videos, photos, or dives from the list. Clicking/tapping Classify videos/photos/dives button will display a dialog for selecting folders. Select check boxes of folders to sort videos, photos, or dives into.

It is available to change a display order of videos and photos. Clicking/tapping Change order will show a dialog for moving selected videos and photos forward/backward. Dragging and dropping thumbnails will also change the display order of videos and photos. Clicking/tapping OK button will save the display order.
Make notes for deep-sea videos, photos, and dives
Notes can be made for deep-sea videos, photos, and dives added to My Library.

Clicking/tapping edit_note (edit) icon will edit note from list of deep-sea videos, photos, or dives. Note can be made from edit_note (edit) icon on video player/photo viewer. Limit number of characters in a note field is 2000.
Made notes can be viewed from lists of deep-sea videos/photos, and dives or video player/photo viewer opened from list of My Library.
Apply for high-resolution videos from My Library
High-resolution video files can be applied from My Library; those video files are the highest resolution JAMTEC can offer offline. There are terms and conditions for use of videos. Please refer to Terms and Conditions for details.

Select videos you want to apply for high resolution. More than one video can be selected for apply at a time. Clicking/tapping Apply selected videos for high resolution button will display an application form on the screen.

Please confirm the notes described above the application form.
The video IDs you have selected on My Library will be automatically entered into the format. Information of user, which is used to login at J-EDI, will be also automatically entered in User information. If the person who applies for differs from the logged-in user, please enter information of the user who actually applies for.

Please register from User registration on the homepage/in the navigation menu or the link on video player/photo viewer.
  • * We use the shared user authentication service, which is oceanographic data providing services, NUUNKUI, of JAMSTEC Global Oceanographic Data Center (GODAC).

Open the login page from Login button on homepage, in the navigation menu or the link on video player/photo viewer, and enter your user ID and password to login.

You will return to J-EDI after login. If your name appears on top of screen, you have logged in successfully, and you can download videos and photos and use My Library.
