General
Bathypterois guentheri is a bathypelagic fish with elongated pelvic and lower caudal fins as in other Bathypterois species. Bathypterois species are often observed to stand on seafloors on its fins and called tripod fishes. The present species has two white bands on the body and bears elongated and divided pectoral fin rays. It is known from the Indian Ocean and the West Pacific.
