The frilled shark, Chlamydoselachus anguineus, is an uncommon primitive shark and sometimes referred to as a living fossil. The body is long, slender, resembling an eel and reaching 2 m in total length. The number of gill slits is six against five in most sharks. The species is mostly benthic, and bathypelagic squids and fishes are often found in the stomach. It is wide-rangeing and has been found on continental shelves and the nearshore areas of large islands.
