1. Cruise Code :
MR00−K04
2. Main Research Theme :
Observationl Studies on Air Sea Interaction.
3. Objectives
Water and heat flux is one of the most important factor to understand the ENSO(El Nino and Southern Oscillaticn ) and the Mcnsccn which affect the global climate. Especially the precipitation is the key phenomena playing the important role for the water and heat flux. So, the interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere are studied focusing on the precipitation. Mainly by using powerful tool shipboard C-band Doppler radar, the precipitation mechanism of the convection which develop in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the influence of the precipitation onto the ocean surface structure will be surveyed.
4. Outline of Observation :
We will make a stationary observation to monitor from the ocean surface to the entire troposhere by C-band Doppler radar, radiosonde, CTD, ADCP, and other meteorological and oceanographic measurement systems. Exact location of station will be determined by the GMS cloud images and other useful tool before the cruise.
5. Main Research Area :
Tropical Western Pacific in the range of 5N〜15N, 130E〜140E Exact location will be decided with help of satellite cloud images.
6. Cruise Period :
June 17, 2000 ~ July 10, 2000. (24 days)
