Re: Selective Standard for Invited Subjects from Public

(1) Basic Idea

    The Independent Administrative Institution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (Hereinafter refered to as JAMSTEC) is now endeavouring to promote the peaceful utilization of marine science technology with an aim to contribute for the costruction and maintenance of international cooperation under the era of law of the sea, and we are carry ing out the Joint utilization type operations for the "MIRAI" as a part of that purpose.

    The "MIRAI" has been provided with outstanding ice-resistance and seaworthiness and being expected to perform the rolls as the forefront international ocean platform to study on global ocean and transmitting base for various datas obtained from global ocean as indicated in the utilization programs for "MIRAI"using her characteristics that she is able to be engaged in the wide range and long term observational research activities.

    It is essential that the results achieved from the utilization of "MIRAI" should be restored to the people, therefore in general all the datas and samples should also be opened to the public as quickly as possible as they are the public belongings.

    We are now considering to work out the long term and medium term observational research programs which are captioned by major research tasks first when we use the "MIRAI", then based on this programs we shall invite the research tasks from public for the research programs during following fiscal year.
    As to the invited research tasks form public, we are planning to thoroughly investigate and select the subjects which may contribute to the long term and medium term observational program and creative and excellent research subjects etc.

(2) Priority subjects

    (A) Subjects which may contribute to promotion of long term and medium
      term observationl research programs of "MIRAI" worked out by the
      JAMSTC;
    (B) Joint research subjects with the JAMSTEC;
    (C) Subjects to be implemented using adjusted fund for science prmotion and
      international coopreative project;
    (D) Other subjects which recognized by JAMSTEC as necessary.
