Morphology
Body and legs covered by numerous small spines. Eyes reduced and lacking pigments of cornea. Chelae elongated; palm almost cylindrical; fingers distinctly longer than palm; cutting edges of chela bearing pectinate teeth.
Distribution, biogeography
Indo-West pacific: Natal, Mozambique; Madagascar: Laccadive Islands; Japan (Southwest of Kyushu); Philippines: South China Sea: Indonesia: eastern Australia: New Caledonia (Griffin & Stoddart, 1995; Takeda & Nagai, 2004).

600-2,161 m depth (Griffin & Stoddart, 1995; Takeda & Nagai, 2004).
Size
Over 400 mm in total length at maximum (Takeda & Nagai, 2004).
Ecology, physiology
Considered to live in burrows of muddy bottom of deep waters.
