General
Liponema brevicornis is a sea anemone recorded from more than 100 m depth from the northern Pacific. In a living animal, the oral disc densely covered by tentacles flares and overhangs the short column, and the edge is at the level of the base and substratum (Dunn & Bakus, 1977). Tentacles also obscure the oval mouth, and thus the animal resembles a low, tentacle-covered dome. The species lives unattached on sand, mud and gravel bottoms and often dominates among deep-sea benthic animals by number and weight (Dunn & Bakus, 1977).
