Ariyama (2022) pointed out that the illustrations of <em>Pontocrates altamarinus</em> reported by Nagata (1960) from the Seto Inland Sea are consistent with the characteristics of <em>Eochelidium lenorostralum</em>, and further noted that <em>P. altamarinus</em> is generally regarded as a species distributed in the Atlantic and the North Sea.
