FY2000Public Invitation for Utilizing 
  the Oceanographic Research Vessel MIRAI 
  
  Independent Administrative Institution, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), continuously 
  from the last year, invites research themes and on board researchers for joint 
  utilization of the oceanographic research vessel R/V Mirai on her FY2000 voyages, 
  which are carried out under "the 
  Long-term Observation and Research Plan for Utilizing the Oceanographic Research 
  Vessel MIRAI", a plan for observation and research to be conducted 
  by public use of R/V Mirai for the next 10years.
  R/V Mirai. with her excellent features for navigation as a research 
  ship and withvarious high-tech observation equipment, is expected to contribute 
  to understanding and prediction of global environmental changes such as global 
  warming, and will be operated under deliberate plans based on a internationally 
  opened research system.
  
   The Essentials of Invitation 
  
  1. Invited themes:
   Research themes which can be conducted within the planned seven 
  voyage-periods and research area shown in the "FY2000 Operation Plan of 
  R/V Mirai" .
  
  2. Application deadline: Postmarked by 7 July 1999.
  
  3.Qualifications:
  (A) Domestic ; Researchers in Japan belonging universities and 
  other institutes
   (B) Overseas ; Researchers who can apply through their joint 
  researchers qualified as (A)
  (C) Research ; Organizations concluded cooperative research agreements 
  with JAMSTEC.
4.Number of researchers to be admitted: Approximately 28 persons 
  per voyage
  
  5.Method of invitation:
   Invitation details to be delivered extensively to related research 
  organizations as well as informed in the INTERNET home page.
  
  6.Selection procedure: Screening and selection 
  process will be performed by the R/V MIRAI
   Operation Planning Committee in the JAMSTEC and the Board of 
  Directors 
   will make a final decision.
  
  7.Date of notification: End of July 1999.
